Nuclear tests… and you.
This morning, early, I heard the news that North Korea has announced they will do a nuclear test. About two or three weeks ago I posted some images (here, scroll down) and we have posted a couple of threats on TAA here and here.
I have been diligently posting information on TAA regarding communications, and survival information. I’ve provided links to manuals about survival during a nuclear attack.
Do I expect North Korea to nuke us? Probably not, but the Peoples Republic of China has nukes, big ones probably as large as 20 megatons. Most likely they would launch strikes with many missiles, and likely their multiple reentry vehicles (MRV) capability is limited. I’m betting they would have to launch a lot of rockets at this point in time to hit their intended targets.
Why am I bringing this up? Where have you been reading???? Pay attention. Look around you. Be aware.
China has nukes. They are aligned with North Korea. North Korea is, we believe getting help from Iran. Funding and perhaps other help and Iran is getting help from North Korea. Read the news if you don’t believe me (Pay attention on TAA as well, we post these news articles all the time, linking one piece to the next). Russia has been amazingly SILENT throughout most of the Iran issues, and North Korean issues. They have certainly commented, but for the most part they’ve been sitting this one out. Now, Russia is testing our limits.
Last Thursday the Russians pushed the envelope as they used to do in the Cold War. They had at least two Russian bombers pressed the edge of US air space and were intercepted by US fighters.
China has been holding large scale naval exercises.
North Korea has been testing missiles.
As I am writing this, an aircraft has been hijacked, somewhere over Greek airspace, and is or has been diverted towards Italy. Fox news is reporting that there might be a connection to the Pope’s recent statements and “Islamic outrage”.
Where am I really going with this today? Well, I don’t think that China will just “up and nuke us”, but I do think that North Korea and Iran are pushing some hot buttons, not just for the United States, but for the UK, and the rest of Western Civilization. I think we’re on the brink of something that will turn out to be—perhaps the last war that our civilization sees. China will get involved, one way, or another.
It behooves each of us to do what we can to take care of ourselves. I’m not saying America will fall, not easily, but I think we’re coming up on times where we might have to defend ourselves on our own soil. I think it will be a nuclear attack, a large one. Chinese missiles are most likely not as accurate as ours, but they do have the GPS capabilities now (thanks to former President Bill Clinton) and likely can hit close enough. (Close, remember only counts in Horseshoes, hand grenades and of course, nuclear bombs.)
I’m not attempting “scaremongering”. Instead, I’m recognizing that events leading up to a nuclear strike are pretty well laid out, both from a strategic, tactical and psychological point of view. Many articles and papers were published during the Cold War in regards to what would happen, levels of security being increased in the US as well as Russia. We can use that same information today. North Korea has gone on high alert. They are planning to test a nuclear device, most certainly within the month. Perhaps within days.
For those of you who are my friends and know me well, you know that I’m not a nut case, and I do read the news with a critical eye. I understand the idea of open source data collection, and it’s not difficult to know what is happening around one. THUS, I ask each of you to consider this; consider your day-to-day activities and what you can do to protect yourself.
Here’s a list of some things to do:
1) Ensure you have batteries, flashlights and a couple of small, portable radios. If you can, obtain a shortwave/AM/FM radio that operates on a small, internal crank generator. (Grundig sells a model for under 40 bucks, with a built in light, and can be found in hardware stores, and on the internet)
2) Check your food supplies. Update them, rotate them and add to them. Ensure you have basic food needs, grains, beans and canned food. Remember to rotate (USE) the food you have. I never would recommend “survival foods” from survival places. Instead purchase those foods you normally eat in larger quantities over a few weeks or months to build your supplies.
3) Water. Check your water source. Store water. People generally need to drink 2-4 pints of water a day. If it is limited, you can get away with 1 pint or slightly more a day in fluid intake. I have a two 50 gallon storage barrels. I have a 450 gallon hot tub. That water will be somewhat useable (washing etc). I keep a small filter system that will make the water drinkable in emergencies.
4) Weapons and ammo… No, you’re not going to be shooting anyone. However you may need it to defend yourself later. If you own a weapon, check it, clean it, re-familiarize yourself with your weapons. Check your ammo. Make sure you have some! Check its age, and replace or add to your supply. You might end up using a rifle later to obtain food in a severe crisis.
5) Talk to you family. Explain to them that the world situation is volatile and we don’t know where it is headed, but you’re trying to be prepared for anything. Ensure your family, children (adult and younger folks) are aware of what you’re doing and ask them to do the same with their families. Set up a phone-tree, or recall roster. Make sure you have alternate methods of contacting each other. TEST your phone tree. Have a meeting place where, in an emergency or in case of an area evacuation, you can all meet up. Have an ALTERNATE location as well.
6) I don’t recommend you bug out, that is go “somewhere else” unless you’re certain your city, or location is a direct target. If you know it is, and you have the ability to move your supplies and family ahead of time, then do it. If not, then use the signs in the news to make your decision. If an attack, nuclear or otherwise comes as a surprise then so be it. But if it isn’t a surprise, then do what you must ahead of time to ensure your survival.
7) Check this information out: Nuclear War Survival Skills READ it when you have time. Scan through and examine areas where you might need to teach yourself a few things.
I think we will be “surprised” by a nuclear attack, but I don’t think it will be unexpected. I think North Korea and Iran will trigger something world wide that most likely they can’t deal with, but we will and as a result, other countries will step into the fray. China is a likely suspect. Russia, I think will sit this out and try to “clean up” afterward. That’s my take on the news of the day folks.
Be prepared, study, learn and understand. Know how to survive if the time comes when you need to survive. No one will help you but yourself, and your neighbors. The government, local, state and federal will be busy dealing with everyone and everything. While the Cavalry might come riding in later, they won’t be there at first. They will come in a day late and a few dollars short, and in the mean time, you will be caring for yourselves.
